What Is Inner Focus Yoga?
Lucinda Pepper's Inner Focus yoga classes are informed by yoga approaches from three very different but related yoga teachers (below), plus techniques and theories from other schools of yoga (such as Kundalini) and other traditions of movement, including Tai Chi, Qi Kung, and Authentic Movement.
The three teachers and yoga styles that make up Inner Focus Yoga all developed under the guidance of a yoga guru named Krishnamacharya, from India. B.K.S. Iyengar, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and T.K.V. Desikachar each studied under Krishnamacharya, but each developed his own distinctive yoga method and style. Click their names to read more about their individual yoga styles.
Yoga guru and teacher B.K.S. Iyengar teaches a style of yoga that emphasizes precision and alignment in every yoga posture; uses props to help the student's body accomplish postures in a precise manner; understands that yoga postures must be taught in a particular order.
Another great master of yoga, Sri K. Pattahbi Jois emphasizes strength and power in yoga practice. Through six specific series of sequences, the Ashtanga student purifies their body through internal heat and sweating out the impurities. The practice of Ashtanga yoga results in a clean, light, healthy body.
The son of Krishnamacharya and a deeply respected yoga guru and teacher himself, T.K.V. Desikachar's yoga is accessible by people of all ages, abilities, and walks of life. Viniyoga is specifically designed to be adapted to each person practicing it and changed as circumstances dictate so that it is as therapeutic as possible, helping the body gain the greatest benefit.
